Statement of Technique
At Sea Through the Wood, we focus on using live edge wood and epoxy to build beautiful, unique, functional art for your home. Whether creating a table, charcuterie board, clock, coat rack or benches for use inside or outside, the process takes time, patience, imagination, and some specialized tools; however, the result is worth it.
Our Process
Step 1
Select the wood – we source our live edge wood primarily from wood farms where the wood from fallen trees is taken to dry. We specialize in finding wood that shows off the natural features of the wood.
Step 2
Create a design – using epoxy with or without a pigment, glossy or matted finish, incorporate shells, rocks, marbles, wine corks to name a few.
Step 3
Prepare the wood – clean & sand the wood, apply an epoxy sealer, allow the sealer to dry – at least 24 hours.
Step 4
Build a mold and secure the piece of wood.
Step 5
Mix and pour the epoxy.
Step 6
Demold and finish the surface.
